Demonstrating its commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration, Logan CDC has made significant strides. To date, Logan CDC has achieved the following:
November 2008
Less than four months after opening its doors, Logan CDC was awarded a service grant from the Community Design Collaborative to develop a commercial corridor improvement plan for the 4800 to 5000 blocks of N. Broad Street. The plan includes façade and streetscape improvements and pedestrian-friendly initiatives. Logan CDC has successfully recruited over 70 Logan residents, community leaders, and business owners to drive the process.
January 2009
The Logan Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) officially opened for business. The NAC promotes collaboration between the City of Philadelphia, residents, and area businesses by bringing access to City services and other resources. In partnership with the Office of Housing and Community Development, the NAC refers clients to housing counseling, weatherization counseling, the Basic Systems Repair Program, and other city services. The NAC has successfully hosted two neighborhood service briefings, cleaned four vacant lots previously used as dumping grounds, coordinated the planting of 50 trees, and is planning a block cleaning competition for July 11, 2009.
March 2009
Logan CDC was officially named a Benefit Bank Site. The Benefit Bank is a free internet-based, counselor-assisted service that helps low and moderate-income individuals and families file for tax credits and benefits. Logan CDC’s staff is certified to provide assistance to residents filing income tax returns and applying for a wide range of federal and state benefits. To date, Logan CDC has assisted 18 local residents with claiming nearly $8,000 in tax dollars using the Benefit Bank online filing system.

Logan CDC partnered with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia and The Tri-State Pepsi Bottling Group to coordinate a volunteer day of service to transform an abandoned property into a new community technology center. The property faces a 40-acre tract of land left vacant from the demolition of sinking homes 20 years ago. In partnership with 9th District Councilwoman Marian Tasco, the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, and the Urban Land Institute, Logan CDC is finalizing plans to redevelop the tract, and the tech center is both a symbolic and physical beginning of Logan’s revitalization.
May 2009
Empowerment Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating economic growth in distressed urban communities, awarded Logan CDC two AmeriCorps VISTA member slots to help with capacity-building and creating sustainable programs and services.
December 2009
Logan CDC received two grants – a service grant from the Community Design Collaborative to provide free design assistance along and abutting the North Broad Street Corridor and a communications capacity-building grant from Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations (PACDC).
January 2010
Logan CDC celebrated the grand opening of the Logan CDC Carlton Simmons Community Technology Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new technology center will offer free computer and Internet access, as well as computer training programs and workshops to members of the Logan community.
